I love to go out for dinner. Sometimes it’s easier. Sometimes I’m tired of our home cooking. Since going keto, we have been doing research and experimenting at area restaurants to see how we can stay keto and still dine out. I wanted to share my research and my experiments and give reviews of restaurants with keto options (none of these restaurants is a sponsor for this blog).
Our first stop is Mission BBQ. This is a place that I eat often because I don’t have to think too hard about how I will eat keto. Mission BBQ gets a gold star for taste, having their nutritional information fully listed on their website, using low carb rubs, and not covering everything in sugary sauces. Their meats are also priced a la carte so, if I don’t want a vegetable, I don’t have to pay for one. Mission BBQ also does a phenomenal job of supporting public safety and the military in my community.
A meal that I get often is (macros edited 09/25/2018):
- Half a Yard Bird (613 cal, 85g protein, 30g fat, 0.8g total carbs, 0.3g net carbs)
- 4 oz of cheddar jalapeno sausage (319 cal, 16g protein, 27.5g fat, 1.5g total carbs, 1.0g net carbs)
- 1 oz of the Alabama White Sauce (161 cal, 0.8g protein, 3g fat, 1g total carbs, 0.5g net carbs)
Macro totals for this meal: 1093 cal, 101.8g protein, 60.5g fat, 3.3g total carbs, 1.8g net carbs)
This is a huge meal so I will eat lighter the rest of the day to make up for it, but it is so yummy! If you have a Mission BBQ in your area, I highly recommend it.
There is a mistake in your macros for the sausage. Website shows 227 gram serving is 32 grams of protein with 637 calories in total.

Thank you for your comment! I updated the macros for the sausage and they should reflect 1/2 a meat market serving now.
