Keto Dining Out: Longhorn Steakhouse

The second stop in my tour of local restaurants who offer keto options is Longhorn Steakhouse. In my opinion, steakhouses are the easiest for keto because all of them have salad, steak, and some type of steamed veggies. I find that Longhorn has the tastiest seasonings and the best-cooked steaks.

I’ve posted a few meals that I like to get below. For the salad, the macros are truly an estimation because the nutrition information on Longhorn’s website includes croutons, so I subtracted a serving of croutons from their salad. Tracking macros when you eat out is sometimes a guessing game, even if the restaurant posts their nutrition information, especially if you are removing something from a dish. I try to keep my carbs as low as possible, so I am not in danger of going over 20g net carbs.

Flat Iron Steak:

I don’t use any steak sauce on my steak because they baste it in butter when they cook it in addition to seasoning the steak.

  • Mixed Salad (an estimate for their salad without croutons) (67 cal, 3.2g protein, 3.2g fat, 7.6g total carbs, 6.0g net carbs)
  • Ranch Dressing (230 cal, 0.75g protein, 25.0g fat, 2.0g total carbs, 2.0g net carbs)
  • Flat Iron Steak (430 cal, 46.0g protein, 23.0g fat, 0g total carbs, 0g net carbs)
  • Steamed Broccoli (90 cal, 4.0g protein, 4.0g fat, 7.0g total carbs, 3.0g net carbs)

You can also order the steamed asparagus for roughly the same macros as the steamed broccoli; it comes to the same net carbs.

Macro totals for this meal: 817 cal, 54.0g protein, 55.2g fat, 16.6g total carbs, 11.0g net carbs)

Prime Rib:

I don’t eat any of the horseradish sauce that comes with the prime rib because it has about 4g net carbs and it is not worth it to me.

  • Mixed Salad (an estimate for their salad without croutons) (67 cal, 3.2g protein, 3.2g fat, 7.6g total carbs, 6.0g net carbs)
  • Ranch Dressing (230 cal, 0.75g protein, 25.0g fat, 2.0g total carbs, 2.0g net carbs)
  • 12 oz. Prime Rib (1030 cal, 68.0g protein, 83.0g fat, 0g total carbs, 0g net carbs)
  • Steamed Broccoli (90 cal, 4.0g protein, 4.0g fat, 7.0g total carbs, 3.0g net carbs)

Macro totals for this meal: 1417 cal, 75.95g protein, 115.2g fat, 16.6g total carbs, 11g net carbs)

Steakhouse Wings:

These wings are deep fried with no breading and are seasoned so well that I do not want the sauces. The macros below are for the whole plate of wings and sauces.

  • Steakhouse Wings (460 cal, 53g protein, 28g fat, 0g total carbs, 0g net carbs)
  • Buffalo Sauce (90 cal, 0g protein, 8g fat, 3g total carbs, 3g net carbs)
  • Blue Cheese Dressing (180 cal, 2g protein, 8g fat, 3g total carbs, 3g net carbs)

Macro totals for this meal: 730 cal, 55g protein, 53g fat, 6g total carbs, 6g net carbs)

I recognize that all of these meals are huge portions and very high in calories. However, Longhorn is a great place to have a special occasion and still remain keto, or you could take half of it home and eat it for lunch the next day.
